August= Emma's birthday month

Family photo #1: LJ not so happy

Family photo #3: all smiles!
August started with my four birthday celebrations (go big or go home!).  The first was with my girls, Charity and Yolanda who took me out for happy hour where they surprised me with cupcakes and then dinner.  It was crazy feeling my boobs get more and more full.  When I got home (after I was partially sprayed by the skunk family that is living in our backyard) I pumped 9 ounces!  Definitely a new record.

Birthday celebration number 2 was with the family.  Grandma Susie made a Thai feast--Tom Yum Gai soup with chicken, chicken satay with peanut sauce and Thai beef salad.  Delicious.  For dessert we had a fruit tart.

Birthday celebration number 3 was a romantic dinner with just Leighton.  Karl and Yuki treated us to dinner and babysitting for the evening.  Besides the 2 hour wait, dinner was delicious and LJ was perfectly behaved for his aunt and uncle.
All dressed up for our first night out alone

Birthday celebration number 4 was our traditional camping trip up to Sly Park.  This year featured the sailboat that Big Lance made and then the awesome cover for it that Susie made.  We all got sailing lessons.  It also has oars so Leighton took people out for rowing adventures.  Little Lance loved camping.  He slept well, enjoyed being held by everyone and didn't even cry when Mama dropped s'mores on his head (even though Mama cried a lot!)  We ate like kings, especially when Yuki cooked: yakisoba with pork, beef and veggie shish kabobs, and garlic shrimp.  It was delicious except for the piece of beef that got stuck in grandpa Lance's esophagus sending him and Susie to the ER.  Other notable events:  DJ caught a fish, Jonna led us in a game of Mafia, through Apples to Apples we learned about each other's personalities, Oliver brought an old fashioned ice cream maker which only took about an hour of cranking to make our frozen treat.  It was nice and hot, the water was perfect, the relaxation station was in full affect, it actually felt like summer.
Unpacking, the trailer made it!

The week we got back LJ had to go in for his 2 month check up.  He is still very tall (24.5 inches), they think he's too skinny (12 pds 7 oz) and his head is only in the 21st percentile for circumference!  We started his immunizations.  I had decided to opt out of Rotavirus and Hepatitis B (I don't think LJ is having sex or sharing needles yet) until it turned out that if we skipped HepB he would have to get 4 shots instead of 3.  Irisa told me to nurse while getting the shots, which the nurse thought was odd but allowed it.  She was great though telling both grandma and I took look away while she did it.  She shot him three times in the thighs and he screamed, but recovered quickly.  I cried a lot.

I can't believe it's been 6 weeks!

He smiles! (wearing the beautiful sweater Sarah knit for him)
The most exciting advancement this week is the intentional smiles!  He did his first definite smile with Odavia, a fact she is very proud of.  Maybe this means he likes Spanish?

I had my follow up appointment--down to 180 pounds!  Pretty amazing.  On a much more depressing note, my doctor found that I still have some open wounds and she decided to cauterize them with silver nitrate.  That was traumatizing, but did end up making me feel better.

The big event of the week was Lucy and MacKenzie's wedding.  The brides were beautiful and radiating love and joy.  It was LJ's first wedding and he loved it! Well he slept through most of it, but he seemed happy.  For the reception Leighton put LJ in the Moby and danced all night.  We're teaching him to love music and have rhythm at a young age.  The wedding brunch the next day was also a blast.  Sam got on the piano and we had a lively sing-a-long.

We also got to enjoy the Berkeley Kite Festival.  It was just like old times except with two babies.  Rumor has it that Naima and LJ may have given the baby bug to the one unnamed baby-less couple.  There may be a third baby in the triumvirate family soon!
